All Types of Vitamins

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Vitamins (combination of two words: Vital Amines) are the complex organic substance essential in small quantities to the metabolism (nutrition) in most animals. These are found in minute quantities in food, in some cases are produced by the body, and are also produced synthetically. The human body needs them to work properly, so that we can grow and develop just like we should. Their deficiency results in many serious disorders.

Vitamins are divided into two major groups: the ‘fat-soluble vitamins’ designated as vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K, and the ‘water-soluble vitamins’ which include vitamin C and the group of molecules referred to as the vitamin B complex. Each of them has its own special role in the development of human body.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A, a fat-soluble vitamin, plays a really big part in eyesight and helps us to see in dim light and also at night. Vitamin A is also involved in the formation and maintenance of healthy skin, hair, and mucous membranes. In addition, it is necessary for proper bone growth, tooth development, reproduction and for the development of epithelial cells (that line any opening to the body e.g.; nose, throat, lungs, mouth, stomach, intestines and urinary tract). Vitamin A can be found in eggs, milk, carrots, spinach, sweet potatoes, fish oil, liver (pork, lamb, chicken, turkey or beef), butter, broccoli, apricots, nectarines, cantaloupe, and orange or yellow vegetables or fruits. The deficiency of vitamin A can cause two major disorders like: night blindness and drying of skin.

Vitamin B

Vitamin B itself is a complex of different vitamins like: B1, B2, B6, B12, niacin, folic acid, biotin and pantothenic acid. These B vitamins are very important in metabolic activity and in facilitating the red blood cell (which carry oxygen throughout your body). They also help your body make protein and energy.

The sources of vitamin B are leafy green vegetables seafood, beans, peas, citrus fruits, whole grains (such as wheat and oats), poultry, meats, eggs and dairy products (like milk and yogurt). Some bacteria in our large intestine also prepare some type of B-vitamins. The deficiency of vitamin B can cause the disease “Beri Beri”, cracked lips, weak muscles, malformation of red blood cells, affects normal growth and disturbs the nervous system.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is a water-soluble, antioxidant vitamin that is vital to the production of collagen, a protein that gives structure to bones, cartilage, muscle, and blood vessels. It is important for keeping body tissues, such as gums and muscles in good shape and it helps in quick healing of wounds. In addition, it helps protecting the fat-soluble vitamins A and E as well as fatty acids from oxidation.

The vitamin C can be found in citrus fruits (like lemon & orange), cantaloupe, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli, cabbage and in other fresh fruits and vegetables. The deficiency of vitamin C affects the healthy skin; poor wound healing and can lead to a disease called “Scurvy” which causes bleeding in gums, easy bruising, bumps of coiled hair on the arms and legs, pain in the joints, muscle wasting, and many other problems.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that regulates the formation of bone and the absorption of calcium and phosphorus from the intestine. It helps to control the movement of calcium between bone and blood, and vice versa. It is this vitamin you need for strong bones and teeth. In addition it helps your body absorb the amount of calcium it needs.

Vitamin D can be found in fish liver oil, egg yolks, milk and other dairy products fortified with vitamin D. It is also produced in our body in the presence of ultra violet light and sunlight.

The deficiency of vitamin D can cause weak bones and bowed legs (in children). And its excess can cause loss of appetite, weight loss, nausea, headache, depression and deposits of calcium in the kidneys.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E, a fat-soluble vitamin, is essential for the inhibition of oxidation in body tissues, formation of red blood cells, and also prevents breakdown of body tissues. It maintains the body tissues and protects the lungs from becoming damaged by polluted air. This vitamin can be found in whole grains (such as wheat and oat), wheat germ, leafy green vegetables, sardines, egg yolks, nuts, bread, cereals and seeds. The deficiency of this vitamin can cause many diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s disease.

Why Should you Use Nutritional Supplements in your Diet?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Nutritional supplements are used to fulfill a deficiency of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients in our everyday diet. A few years ago nutritional supplements were not as popular among people as they are today. This is because in years passed there was not much need for anyone to take these supplements. People used to eat pure and healthy food which consisted of a balanced diet including milk, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, fish. Basically back then our diet contained everything that we needed in order for our bodies to function correctly. Today our busy schedules have made our minds so pre-occupied that we don’t have enough time to eat enough to fulfill all our body needs. Combined with the fact that the vegetables are extensively farmed and kept on shelves for a long time, this reduces the nutrient intake that we actually eat. This is why we need nutritional supplements to maintain our health.

It is a known fact that nutritional supplements are useful for people belonging to all age groups. Children need adequate amounts of calcium, phosphorus and iron to develop healthy bones and teeth. Similarly, elderly people need all kinds of vitamins and energy vitalizing substances to keep themselves fit. These supplements also help them fight against various diseases, and some are even thought to prevent heart attacks and even cancer. Many nutritional supplements, including folic acid, are recommended to pregnant women to protect the baby from developing any abnormality. Obesity and high cholesterol can also be treated by using nutritional supplements made from natural plant and animal extracts.

Lately there has been much debate as to whether nutritional supplements are really useful or if there’s really no point in taking them. It’s true that there is no alternative for a proper balanced diet, nothing can take the place of fresh fruits and vegetables. But at the same time taking small amounts of health supplements is not harmful at all, instead it provides protection against many diseases in the long run.

You should never replace your everyday meals with nutritional supplements, although meal replacement powders are available on the market. As with any change in your diet it’s important to consult a health specialist before consuming any kind of nutritional supplement. Also don’t fall for the many attractive advertisements about some supplement products that claim to do wonders overnight. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!

Natural food extracts should always be preferred over other man-made supplements. A weight loss supplement made from extracts of green tea is an example. Many other supplements are also made by combining different herbal extracts and a blend of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids. As you must have guessed, these materials are not harmful for the body at all as they all occur naturally.

People who are taking antibiotics are advised to ask their doctor before buying nutritional supplements because they might interfere with the antibiotic course that has to be completed in order to treat an infection. Similarly diabetic patients and those suffering from high blood pressure and high cholesterol are advised not to consume any kind of weight gain or energy boosting supplement before consulting their doctor.

You also need to remember that these nutritional supplements are effective only when right amounts of each one is taken as prescribed by a health specialist. Overdose might prove to be detrimental to your health. Similarly taking less than the correct dosage, or not following the procedure correctly may not prove to be as effective for the body.

Overdose can also cause some side effects like dizziness and nausea. There are no clear signs of vitamin or mineral deficiency in the body, but when you feel that your diet is not composed of all the healthy food that must be consumed everyday, you should immediately ask your doctor’s opinion. If taken properly and as part of a healthy balanced diet, nutritional supplements are an excellent way to ensure that your body is being fed with all the necessary nutrients it needs in order to function properly and defend it from various kinds of illnesses.

Introduction to Liquid Vitamin Supplements

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Several years ago, liquid vitamin supplements were never heard of. In the past, tablets and pills were the ideal way to take supplements. Although they were considered to be great, they wouldn’t get into the bloodstream of the body fast enough, with some people just passing them through the body without reaping the benefits. With the market craving more and manufacturers looking for ways to make vitamins better, they decided to turn to liquid vitamins.

Although fruit and vegetables contain the right amounts of minerals and nutrients, it’s nearly impossible to live off them alone. Even though they contain the right amount, it’s also impossible to eat the right amount that our bodies need on a daily basis. While some may choose to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, the human stomach simply isn’t big enough to contain all of the fruits and vegetables that an individual needs on a daily basis.

To get the right amount of minerals and nutrients, you’ll need to take vitamin supplements. Supplements have long time been the ideal way to supply your body with the minerals and nutrients it needs. Although pill and tablet vitamins can give you what you need, they don’t deliver the vital nutrients your body needs quick enough. Liquid vitamin supplements gets into your bloodstream and your body fast, proving to be effective in a fraction of the time.

Liquid vitamin supplements can also help you to improve your health and live a better life. Even though you may be on a healthy diet, there will always come a time when you aren’t able to eat a healthy meal. Busy lifestyles can make it hard to get the food you need, which is where supplements really come in handy. No matter how busy your day may get – you can always take liquid supplements wherever you are.

Another ideal fact about liquid vitamin supplements are the fact that they contain everything you need. With pills and capsules, your body will normally absorb around 20% of the nutrients found in the supplements. Liquid vitamin supplements on the other hand are easily absorbed by your body, and move to your vital areas faster. Due to them being liquid, they are much easier to digest than pills or tablets.    Therefore, pills and tablets are becoming replaced by liquid supplements.

If you’ve been looking for the best vitamin supplements for your body, you should be looking at liquid supplements. There are many manufacturers available, each one offering you cutting edge vitamins for your body and your health. You can take them the say way that you take pills and tablets, with your meals. This way, you’ll get the protein and other sources you need from food – and the essential vitamins and nutrients your body needs from liquid vitamin supplements.

Equine Symptoms of Ulcers and How to Treat Them

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
When your normally well-behaved performance horse starts acting strangely, what do you do? Do you immediately think he is developing an attitude or do you look for other causes? If your horse demonstrates any or all of the behaviors below you may want to think twice before assuming he has an attitude problem. Your horse may be displaying equine symptoms of ulcers.

- Refusing jumps

- Acting up in the alley way

- Kicking in the trailer

- Pinning his ears when you put your leg on

- Biting or kicking when his girth is tightened

While these may seem like a group of unrelated symptoms, they’re not. They are common equine symptoms of ulcers. Veterinarians and other researchers have recently recognized gastric and colonic ulcers as serious health threats, especially among performance horses or horses in training. The reasons ulcers are so common among these horses include:

* Infrequent, high carbohydrate meals, and inadequate access to hay or pasture

* Heavy training schedules

* High stress environments

* Excessive use of drugs, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs

To treat the equine symptoms of ulcers I like to feed pelleted senior horse feed because it is easier to digest than grains. In addition, I find that supplementing horses with one or a combination of these three product lines is very helpful: Simplexity Health, Stomach Soother, and SUCCEED.

** Simplexity Health Products **

Simplexity Health offers extremely high-potency acidophilus, bifidus, enzymes, and blue green algae. When fed as a supplement to the pelleted senior feed, these products are very healing to the digestive system and can be very helpful to those that are showing equine symptoms of ulcers but need to remain in training. The probiotics acidophilus and bifidus help heal any ulceration in the stomach while the enzymes help the horse easily digest his food, preventing further damage. The blue-green algae supports the whole healing process as well as providing the horse an easy source of energy in the form of glycogen from the blue-green algae cell wall.

** Stomach Soother **

This commercial product is designed for the treatment of stomach ulcers and digestive distress in horses. It is made from natural papaya, a tropical fruit, which is native to Central America and Mexico. Papaya’s active ingredient is papain, which resembles the digestive enzyme pepsin. Papain stimulates the appetite, soothes membranes of the esophagus and stomach, and quiets inflammatory bowel disorders.

Papaya also contains nutritional compounds such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, iron, niacin, potassium, riboflavin, and thiamin. Two ounces twice a day is a great ulcer preventative and can be very soothing for those showing equine symptoms of ulcers. This product is fine for long-term use but it must be refrigerated once the bottle is opened. The company is working on a daily dosing system to overcome this challenge for those who do not have refrigerators near the barn.

** SUCCEED **

This natural product contains oat oil, which is rich in polar lipids, and oat flour, which is high in beta-glucan soluble fiber, yeast extract, and the amino acids L-Threonine and L-Glutamine. Polar lipids are water-soluble fats that help transport nutrients into the bloodstream and support a healthy gut lining. Soluble oat fiber evens out the rate of digestion to improve digestion. Yeast extract supports normal levels of digestive microbes in the large intestine. The amino acids L-Glutamine and L-Threonine support a healthy mucous lining throughout the digestive tract. SUCCEED comes in a paste form for daily dosing of horses that are off feed, definitely one of the equine symptoms of ulcers, and a granule form that can be added to the feed once or twice a day. I find this product to be most helpful for horses with ulcers in the large intestine. Many people find a combination of SUCCEED and Stomach Soother works best.

Why Chose Liquid Vitamins for Good Health

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009
ding the importance of having a vitamin supplement every day and the positive effects it has on your body is key.

Some vitamins are found in almost every living cell indicating that their role in nutrition is a very fundamental one.

These vitamins found naturally in our food products are easily destroyed or washed out during food storage and preparation.

You don’t want to lose the value of the vitamins, so you should use a daily vitamin supplement along with the vitamins that are found naturally in the food you eat so as to ensure that you have the daily recommend dose for complete health and nutrition.

This group of vitamins is also involved in making red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout your body. Every part of your body needs oxygen to work properly, so B vitamins have a really important job. Chromosomes need the protection from genetic disorders commonly found in the cells. Having great skin is also a product of Folic acid.

It makes sense to take a vitamin supplement that can help make newly developing skin cells healthier, increase collagen and elastin, with antioxidants that fight free radicals, too.

Cells lacking vitamins and minerals suffer DNA and mitochondrial damage. Under a microscope, it looks as if the cells were irradiated.

Because free radicals are unwanted byproducts from cellular respiration, their accumulation will cause changes to the cells which are destructive enough that the cells cannot adapt normally. This means a reduction in exercise induced processes in the cell such as repair and growth.

Antioxidants mop up toxins (free radicals) from the body. Free radicals are the by products inside the body from external pollutants. Antioxidants are our best weapons against suffering from any form of cancer. Without it, we are basically weaker and less healthy.

Vitamins that are water soluble easily disolve in water. Leftover amounts of the vitamin leave the body through the urine. Water-soluble vitamins include all the B vitamins and vitamin C. Water-soluble vitamins travel freely through the body, and the part that the body doesn’t use passes through the kidneys and leaves the body as urine or stool.

Studies have shown that Vitamin E improves insulin action and it exerts a number of beneficial effects that aids in preventing long-term complications of diabetes, especially cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that those who took Vitamin E on a regular basis had a 41 % lower risk of heart disease.

To conclude this article, let me just simply state tha an addition of a good liquid vitamin with a high antioxident score should be a part of daily excercise. A healthy diet along with these liquid vitamins can give the free radical fighting difference needed for living a long and productive life.

A Look at the Benefits of Liquid Vitamins

Saturday, September 26th, 2009
Vitamins and minerals can be absorbed by the body in a number of ways. They first enter our body through the food we eat. Secondly, we can take vitamin supplements to increase the amount of pertinent vitamins and minerals. There are different methods of taking medication and one of the most common methods is absorbing it in its liquid form. Do the advantages of liquid vitamins far outweigh its disadvantages – if there are any? Read on and find out.

Better or Easier Absorption for Kids Although liquid vitamins may taste worse than vitamins in flavored, chewable tablet forms, they are however easier to absorb. There are numerous cases in which children have problems with choking, breathing and swallowing simply because of their inability to absorb medication or vitamins in this form.

This is the same problem as well for adults who have lost their ability to control their jaws or are unable to digest anything that is not in liquid form.

Liquid Vitamins are More Effective Because of its form, liquid vitamins can be assimilated immediately into the blood stream for a more systemic administration of the vitamin and its average absorption rate is approximately 90 to 98%. It is also three to five times more concentrated than vitamin pills and this lead to higher bio-activity and greater therapeutic benefits.

The Link between Antioxidants and Liquid Vitamins Have you ever wondered whether or not liquid vitamins contained oxidants as well? Vitamins E, C and A are examples of antioxidants and they are commonly found in vitamin supplements but what about liquid vitamins?

And the answer is an absolute YES. Liquid vitamins must in fact contain such antioxidants or they’ll prove to be ineffective compared to other vitamins. Remember that the most important of all antioxidants – Vitamins A, C and E – are not internally produced by the body so they must be a regular fixture in our diet. Antioxidants are our main defense against effects of damaging oxidation reactions. Antioxidants are our best weapons against suffering from any form of cancer. Without it, we are basically weaker and less healthy.

Liquid Vitamins versus Digestive Acids One reason why people refuse to acknowledge the benefits of liquid vitamins is because of the supposed destruction by digestive acids of any vitamin or mineral that it does not recognize as part of the process of digestion. The opposite is, in fact true. Our digestive system actually prefers or is able to better absorb liquid vitamins and minerals rather than those made in pill or capsule form.

A vitamin pill or tablet has to be digested completely before it can benefit the human body. It must be broken down into absorbable nutrients or only up to thirty percent of it will be absorbed by the human body. Liquid vitamins however provide a better and easier solution for the digestive system. Because it does not depend in any way on mechanical digestion, an estimated 90% of it can be absorbed directly by the body.

It’s vital to remember that digestion does not mainly function to destroy vitamins and minerals but rather to transform them into substances it can use to improve the general constitution of the body.

Liquid Vitamins: Toxic or Not? Another problem posed is the amount of colloidal minerals found in liquid vitamins. Are they harmful or not?

In truth, even plants and fruits contain a trace of such minerals in them. Apples, for instance, contain 3-5 mg of aluminum as it’s one of the most abundant elements that can be found in the surface of the Earth. But do you hear anyone telling you that apples are dangerous to your health? On the contrary, what we are more likely to hear is that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

And so it must be with liquid vitamins as well. Containing a slight amount of colloidal mineral doesn’t mean it’s bad for our health right away. Colloidal minerals, are above all else, naturally occurring elements and can not therefore be avoided.

You Have a Choice At the end of the day, however, it’s still up to you whether or not you wish to take vitamin supplements in liquid or solid form. What really matters is what you prefer and which will ultimately work better for you.

Read About Vitamin C

Friday, September 25th, 2009
The c vitamin has got to be the most widely known vitamin these days. It is not surprising because the body needs c vitamin for over 300 functions. In fact, the c vitamin has been proved to help protect against heart disease, cancer and other serious illnesses. Without the c vitamin the body would not be able to heal itself either. This is because the c vitamin is vital for the formation of collagen. Whenever a person has a cut or an injury it is the collagen that helps repair the damage and without sufficient c vitamin this would be almost impossible. Collagen has a multitude of functions in the body, including keeping the organs in place, and it would not be able to do this without sufficient c vitamin.

The c vitamin is also an antioxidant for the body and helps other vitamins and minerals to be absorbed better. Folic acid and iron, for example, need the c vitamin to maximise their usefulness. The more c vitamin that the body has, the better its defence against colds and other common ailments and the c vitamin may not prevent a person catching a virus but it does help speed up the recovery process.

There is c vitamin in almost every fruit and vegetable but some have far higher c vitamin content than others. Cranberries and melons have high c vitamin content. In fact, tropical fruits have the highest c vitamin amounts of all fruit. Hot peppers are amongst the richest sources of the c vitamin when it comes to vegetables. The hotter the pepper, the higher its c vitamin content is. Unfortunately, the c vitamin is water soluble so many vegetables lose their effectiveness as a c vitamin provider if they are boiled for a long time. Steaming or quick stir frying vegetables ensures that more of their c vitamin content is retained. The recommended daily amount of the c vitamin is easily obtained from eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day if they are consumed raw or cooked quickly.

C vitamin supplements are extremely useful to ensure that people obtain sufficient c vitamin. However, with a balanced diet the amount of c vitamin the body receives is likely to be sufficient. However, if a person begins feeling tired or lethargic then a c vitamin supplement will help overcome this. There is no danger of having too much c vitamin as the body simply excretes the excess.

Synaptol – Can Its Ingredients Relieve Symptoms Of ADHD?

Thursday, September 24th, 2009
Although it’s often diagnosed fairly early in life, when a child is between 6 and 12 years old, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is considered a chronic condition for which no medical cure is available. However, in defining whether cures are available, studies consider only conventional drug treatments and behavioral therapy, intended to help control ADHD/ADD behavior, but do not improve mental or physical health in general.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder is essentially the result of a brain that can’t manage the amount of stimuli it encounters. Factors such as boredom, anxiety, poor nutrition, allergies, or undiagnosed yeast infections can lead to false diagnoses. Prescription drugs are used to chemically block a portion of internal and external stimuli from reaching the brain. To do so, they reduce a child’s exploration, curiosity, socializing, and playing, as well as diminishing brain function and narrowing the range of mental capacity or emotional expression.

Natural supplements intended for the treatment of ADHD symptoms, such as MicroNutra Health’s Synaptol are intended to enhance the brain’s neurobiological abilities, to enable a child’s brain to handle greater levels of stimuli without becoming overwhelmed. The question for potential Synaptol users (or their parents) is whether the products ingredients are capable of achieve the results the manufacturer claims.

MicroNutra states that Synaptol is designed at the molecular level to target and feed a child’s young mind and body by addressing the root causes of ADHD at the nutritional level. They report that among users of Synaptol, 94.9% experience positive mental, physical, and emotional benefits within the first few days.

INGREDIENTS

* Aloe barbadensis extract: Aloe extract has been proven as a cell growth stimulator in the central nervous system, supporting mental clarity. Many people think of aloe in terms of its benefits as an antibiotic and astringent pain reliever. But science has also demonstrated aloe’s ability to increase neuron growth, which improves your brain cells by increasing their number and their interconnectivity.

* Tragacanth gum: increases the production of interferon and cell to cell communication, especially in the brain.

* Beta-Glucan: supports the production and activity of macrophages, which are white blood cell that are part of your cellular defense team and free radical scavengers.

* Arabinogalactan: is a phytonutrient fiber with beneficial effects on digestion and your immune system.

* Ghatti gum: is a complex polysaccharide, which as a natural source of calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Calcium is required for the electrical signals of the nervous system. Magnesium is a mineral that helps relax blood vessels, which improves blood flow to the brain. Potassium helps the body remove toxic material from brain cells, preventing premature cell death. This combination of vitamins supports healthy brain activity.

* Guar gum: is a soluble fiber that promotes healthy cellular renewal and reduces cardio-vascular disease.

As a rule, herbal supplements are not as scientifically researched as pharmaceutical products, although some would argue that thousands of years of use among Eastern cultures results in more reliable “research” than do Western laboratories. Regardless, in the West, we tend to rely on double-blind, large-participant, controlled experiments, and the herbs in Synaptol do not have that kind of evidence to support their efficacy, as very few herbs do.

However, MicroNutra Health is making no claims for the product that are outside the normal realm of what herbalist agree Synaptol’s herbs will do for you. It’s up to you to decide whether to accept herbalists’ data.

CONCLUSION

As acknowledged by MicroNutra Health on their Synaptol Web site, the effectiveness of individual ingredients is not the same as the effectiveness of the supplement as a whole. Two products with similar ingredients can differ substantially in effectiveness, and the wrong blend can be entirely ineffective or, worse, dangerous. Therefore, because no herbal supplement manufacturer is going to make public their proprietary formula, there’s no way for a potential customer (or reviewer) to know for certain that the product offers the ideal formulation.

For Synaptol, we know that MicroNutra Health has been providing herbal supplements for more than 30 years, and that they provide a 90-day money-back guarantee so that you can see if the product works for you. The company claims that every product manufactured for MicroNutra Health is done so in an FDA-approved facility under “Good Manufacturing Practices” guidelines, and the company provides numerous testimonials from former ADHD sufferers (or their parents) who represent a variety of backgrounds and conditions. The testimonials include names and pictures, which is considered a good sign in testimonials, but they don’t include contact information (which is the testimonial world’s “gold standard” because you can independently contact the reviewer for their full opinions).

Still, based on the ingredients, it does seem that Synaptol may be able to combat ADHD symptoms in the ways that it claims. If you choose to try Synaptol as a potential solution to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, remember that this product, like any supplement, is best used with a healthy and responsible lifestyle.

Did You Know This About Collagen Skin Care?

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009
Although they are popular, collagen skin care creams are not effective for reducing wrinkles or sagging. The only collagen treatments that are effective are those conducted by a cosmetic surgeon, in which the protein is injected directly into the tissue beneath the skin.

Even the makers of collagen skin care products are not specific about exactly what the ingredient does for you. They are very specific about other ingredients. Elastin, for example, is said to promote wound healing. Zinc promotes collagen synthesis in the dermis. Beta glucan from oats appears to stimulate skin cells to produce pro-collagen molecules.

Companies that don’t make collagen treatments provide information about what other compounds do, and in some cases, they provide links to published clinical studies. Avocado oil, for example, was shown to increase the amount of pro-collagen molecules present in the skin. Wakame kelp extracts have been shown to inhibit Hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, which is partially responsible for the skin’s soft, but firm nature.

If collagen treatments do improve the skin’s appearance, it is likely due to the other compounds included in the treatment. The skin’s cells can’t pick up the protein and use it for anything.

I have done a lot of research on the subject and I cannot seem to find a single reliable source promoting the benefits of a collagen skin care cream. I have found numerous studies that support the use of a specific form of keratin.

Keratin is the primary protein found in the epidermis, that’s the layer that we see. Collagens are found in the dermis, four or five layers down. Until collagen treatments became popular, there were lots of healing lotions on the market that contained keratin, but they weren’t that effective either.

The processes used to hydrolyze or make either of the proteins soluble also destroy their bio-activity. A company called KERATEC, using a number of patented processes, has learned how to hydrolyze keratin, without destroying its bio-activity. In other words, the skin’s cells can use it and they do.

Creams containing KERATEC’s keratin have been shown to stimulate the production of new skin cells, one of the processes that seem to slow down, as we age. Many companies promote the idea of using weak acid or exfoliants to peel of some of the damaged cells in the outermost layers. But, stimulating the production of more cells to replace those that are damaged is a safer and gentler option.

Once the cells are formed, they gradually work their way up to the surface, pushing out those in the outermost layer. The process is a lot more effective than a collagen skin care treatment.

If you can find a night cream that contains KERATEC’s keratin and avocado oil, you should see real results in just a few days.
